We’ve all been there, talking with colleagues or friends, and discussing how well your health is doing at the moment. We should also be smart enough never to do this as what happens the minute you do this? So how do you deal holistically with your physical and mental health?
Well a prime example here is we were discussing the COVID-19 vaccine and as many will know reluctantly I had both shots, but I put my foot down to the FLU vaccine, every time I’ve had it I’ve been ill for three weeks then had the flu for Christmas. I know many may think that’s odd but my health just works that way.
So yesterday we were talking about how well I was doing healthwise, and no less than two hours later, I wish I hadn’t! I now have a head cold, you know the stuffy head, nose running constantly, a core temperature that’s through the roof. In fact last night it was frosty outside, I turned the heating off, opened the window as wide as it went, and put my big desk fan on full for the night. To be fair I was expecting to be bad for a few days, I usually am. but this morning I woke up with a headache still, and a sore throat but feeling a lot perkier than I should. The question is have I just invoked the Chaos Gods of Illness again?
It just shows a good mental attitude and being in tune with your own body can help you get better a lot quicker than a trip to the Pharmacists or the General Practitioner.
My Advice for anyone with cold or flu symptoms is simple:
- Stay Hydrated
- Vitamin C helps a lot
- Eat even if you can’t face it (unless its Flu then starve it)
- Don’t stay in bed, get up, washed and dressed and get on with living no matter how you feel.
My Advice for staying well is also simple:
- Diet, don’t eat junk, lots of nuts, seeds, living food (greens, salad etc)
- Don’t dump red meat, just limit it.
- If your a smoker give the hell up, its blocking your lungs, and costing you a bomb.
- Drink water, don’t bother with fizzy drinks, trust me they are far worse for you than you believe! especially Orange flavoured ones (But I will let you do your own research on that)
- Treat your body as a temple, research your foodstuffs properly.
- An occassional treat is great, but not every day.
Exercise is good for you, but not in the way you think. Fresh air is good for the soul, you have legs, go walking! If you are a jogger and also have arthritis, swap to running the movement is more fluid and less jarring on the joints (also use Glucosamine).
Stress: What is so important is that you need to stress 24/7 Nothing! find time to turn off and tune out. Get a good book and read it, get some music on and dance like nobody is watching. Live life like it doesn’t matter. The moment once it’s gone it is gone, you can dwell on it but it’s still gone.
Mental Health: Don’t ever give up, even if you have truly nobody, there is always someone that will listen! Medicating yourself will not help in the long run.
So if you’re going to invoke the Gods of Chaos do it for the right reason, to improve yourself all around.
