Eat Better Work Better! Junk Food vs Real food, how your choice affects your life, and the environment. Eat better work better
Let us think about how our Diet and intake effects us. I am going to start with obviously junk food for good reason.
Junk food or convenience food is designed for those with busy lifestyles. Those wanting to cram as many minutes into the day as possible. So let’s start with the pros and cons.
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Convenient to buy and cheap | Full of fats and preservatives |
Designed to be eaten in-store or in the car | Wrappers, Extra salt, sauces that are not as good for you. |
A Quick Fix | You feel hungry sooner, rather than later |
Lots of choices | Not so much that’s healthy and living |
Tasty | lots of fats and transfats adding to your waistline, and clogging your heart |
For all the family, and you can go large! | Yes your kids get plastic toys with it, so more damage to the planet |
The question I have to ask is what is really in it? UK Television Chief Jamie Olliver started a campaign to cut assorted junk meals out of kids diets and has been doing so for a number of years. What is actually in the food that you are eating. Is that Beef burger, really beef. Take for example the when Mcdonald’s closed its Icelandic restaurants. Here is what was done https://nypost.com/2019/11/04/mcdonalds-burger-from-2009-still-in-perfect-condition/ So if it stays that way what is it doing to your body. Are you getting Organic? probably not, are you getting Non-GMO, definitely not! So why are they selling it? Because it fills a temporary gap, then you are hungry again and go back for more. As you do so you are shortening your life whilst fueling an addiction to sugars and salts. Plus all the unseen ingredients too. Microwave meals are decidedly worse, portion sizes are wrong, their is too much that is made of non-recyclable plastics, that find their way into your body too, impacting your health/
Now let’s look at good food:
Good food is usually made at home or a quality cafe or restaurant. If you are cooking fresh you can choose your own ingredients, hopefully local, organic and GMO-Free. You know what portion sizes your family eats so you can make enough for one or two meals. There is little or no waste which can’t be recycled. And you are in control of the seasonings and salt and preservatives. Plus when you cook at home or eat at a restaurant you are sitting with family or friends, you take time out to talk and digest your food properly and have a conversation that doesn’t involve your work. Yes, cooking every day may sound like a luxury but trust me it’s worth every second of it. When I was at University I used to feed many of my friends on Sunday evenings, for as little as £2.00 per head and that was a full three course Sunday meal, all of the ingredients came from the local market the day before, and a tip for you if you are going to use markets, go just before they close you will get some good discounts!
But what about lunch and working I can already hear people screaming? Well, Why not make your lunch whilst making breakfast, take something in with you. Failing that why not find if there is a good cafe that delivers quality food. I am not saying it needs to be perfect, but come on anything is better than a Subway!
After a decent meal, your brain is fed, and it’s not concentrating on being hungry that is why you feel more productive!
So as A conclusion FEED your BRAIN, not Corporations pockets!
